The Count Basie Story was originally issued as a deluxe double-LP box set in by Roulette Records. The basic idea was for the modern Basie big band to re-record some its classics from the s and '40s as a celebration of its 25th anniversary. The original band had played host to some of the most legendary names in jazz: Lester Young, Harry Edison, Walter Page, Freddie Green, and Jo Jones.7/
